Daughter's first sentence... [May. 30th, 2008|04:21 pm]
nom-nom apple mine, which is pretty good as far as I'm concerned. For a while now she's been burbling along, but this is the first phrase where everything has been intelligible. Joy!

Writer's Block: Road Trip [Apr. 26th, 2008|01:10 pm]

When was the last time you drove out of town?

View other answers

I don't drive; I cycle. Last Sunday 5 of us met in Redhall Walled Garden and went up the Water of Leith path to Currie, up Kirkgate and to Balerno. 15 miles on a sunny afternoon, good company and good views over the city.

it's all about the daughter [Jan. 22nd, 2008|11:09 am]
My daughter likes dancing, but I'm not sure I'd take her to a club: http://news.scotsman.com/health/Baby-you39re-a-great-little.3695624.jp

In other news: the daughter has her first skelped knee. She kept falling over at the allotment on Sunday, and I'd turn round and find her head down and feet sticking up and waggling. Now she's got three little bruises and a dab of blood on her knee and every time I change her nappy I'm torn. Part of me is thinking what a terrible father, the other is feeling proud of her for not crying when she repeatedly fell over.

Chris Wood ... my new musical hero [Jan. 3rd, 2008|10:16 am]
Five hundred thousand English pounds,
for this old house and a piece of ground...

Chris Wood's The cottager's reply is on BBC listen again for the next few hours ... fantastic stuff: wonderful acoustic guitar playing and a tale of pride versus cash.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/latejunction/pip/bcdc0/ - the first 3 1/2 minutes of the show.

He's playing at Celtic Connections on Sunday 20 Jan, so I'll try and persuade my lover to look after the girl...

Great timing [Oct. 2nd, 2007|08:45 pm]
2 - 18 November: Between two worlds: light and sound show in Glenmore forest. Environmental installations in the vein of the recent NVA exhibitions of The Storr and Kilmartin. When we were in Aviemore we saw a boardwalk being built across the moss leading to the pass of Ryvoan. It's a lovely area; could be a magical event.

HOWEVER ...

10 - 19 November: Nine day shutdown for rail link between Perth and Inverness.

Greenwash re: sustainable [Sep. 25th, 2007|12:13 pm]
Am I the only one who gets wound up by the phrase Sustainable Nuclear Energy? The EU seems to think it's a good thing and is funding a forum. Quite apart from the substance of the forum (apparently the next generation of nuclear power plants will solve all the problems, honest), it's the use of 'sustainable' to make the forum palatable. Just like 'community' is difficult to argue against when it's tagged onto a concept. In fact, why don't the EU go the whole hog and have a Sustainable community nuclear energy? It's in everyone's back yard!

A second tank [Sep. 11th, 2007|04:09 pm]
So it appears that the space hijackers bought two tanks, used one as a decoy and have blocked DSEi using the other.

Cheatneutral.com [Sep. 3rd, 2007|11:50 am]
From this month's issue of the New Internationalist, a most seductive service. When you cheat on your partner you add to the heartbreak, pain and jealousy in the atmosphere. Cheatneutral.com offsets your cheating by funding someone else to be faithful and not cheat. This neutralizes the pain and unhappy emotion and leaves you with a clear conscience.

It's even been referred to in the House of Commons, 21 March 2007.
